In the pursuit of self-discovery, I've come to realize that fear often held me back from being my true self. For years, I donned a mask to please others, losing sight of who I really was. My love language has always been giving, but I've begun to question whether I do it purely for reciprocation. This people-pleasing tendency is something I'm now striving to shed, aiming to authentically create the life and business of my dreams.
Many of us wear masks to fit societal molds, trapping ourselves in a gilded cage that eventually becomes unbearable. As children, expressing our true selves comes naturally, especially when encouraged by supportive parents. However, for those with emotionally unavailable caregivers, we learn to wear masks and become "good girls." In my case, I only allowed myself to be authentic in my imaginary world, where I could be the heroine of my own story without restrictions.
When developing my business, I initially wanted to do so on my own terms. Yet, the fear of failure, financial pressure, and the need to prove myself as a competent coach led me to conform to perceived expectations. I found myself creating content that bored me to tears, all in an attempt to please algorithms and gain followers. I've noticed similar patterns with my clients – they arrive consumed by scarcity mindsets, afraid of making mistakes or identifying their most marketable products. We become so disconnected from our desire to be ourselves and attract aligned clients that we do the opposite out of fear.
Now, I yearn to reinvent myself by reconnecting with my authentic self. Many female entrepreneurs share this need to stop hiding behind generic content and instead create businesses where their unique ideas translate into profit while transforming lives. It's about being true to oneself without masks, being paid for simply being, and allowing ourselves to want more without guilt.
The fear of being ourselves often stems from concerns about disappointing friends and family. We hesitate to express our true thoughts or say no, fearing we'll lose something. In reality, we're abandoning ourselves to please others who only love a polished version of us. Is that truly love? This leads to feelings of loneliness, frustration, and the sense that no one understands us. How can we create a fulfilling life or business when we're not being authentic?
To begin this journey of self-discovery, we must first identify what we no longer want. For instance, I no longer wish to be defined by a niche – I am my own niche. I refuse to spend hours crafting perfect content that dilutes my message to avoid offending anyone. I can't please everyone, nor do I want to. I desire to feel secure when creating content. Daring to be oneself means granting permission to be authentic, regardless of likes or follower counts. I want to create something that genuinely transforms lives.
This September, I'm challenging myself to be bold and authentic every day. I've realized that I'm most myself when creating my podcast and writing – when the content is raw and unfiltered. Just because the beginning of 2024 was challenging doesn't mean the rest of the year must follow suit. I'm eager to tap into my feminine connections and confident that I can build the business I envision. But it's more than just creating content all day; it's about holistic self-improvement – losing weight, indulging in my passion for painting, and most importantly, sharing my truth about the lessons I've learned and my successes without comparing myself to others.
In conclusion, the journey to authenticity is not just about personal growth – it's the key to unlocking true success in both life and business. By shedding our masks and embracing our genuine selves, we open doors to deeper connections, more fulfilling work, and a profound sense of purpose. This transformation isn't just about being true to ourselves; it's about inspiring others to do the same, creating a ripple effect of authenticity and positive change in the world.
As we dare to be boldly ourselves, we'll find that our unique voices resonate more powerfully than any carefully crafted persona ever could. In this authenticity lies not just personal freedom, but the potential to build businesses and lives that are truly aligned with our deepest values and aspirations. The path may be challenging, but the reward – a life lived authentically and a business built on genuine passion – is immeasurable.
My Mood of the Week: Navigating Challenges and Rediscovering Inspiration
The past few days have been a rollercoaster of emotions and physical discomfort. An unexpected allergic reaction to cosmetic products left me feeling under the weather, casting a shadow over my usual vibrant energy. This health setback, though temporary, had a ripple effect on my mood and productivity.
Despite the physical discomfort, I found myself at a creative crossroads. My mind was brimming with ideas, a wellspring of potential waiting to be tapped. Yet, the path from thought to expression seemed shrouded in uncertainty. I grappled with an overwhelming sense of nervousness about sharing my innermost thoughts and creative visions with the world.
In these moments of doubt, I reminded myself of the power of perseverance. Even when inspiration felt distant, I made a conscious decision to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). This act of writing, no matter how challenging, became my anchor in the storm of self-doubt.
As I reflect on this week, I realize that creativity often flourishes in the face of adversity. My allergic reaction, though unpleasant, served as a reminder of my body's sensitivity and the importance of self-care. Similarly, my nervousness about sharing ideas highlighted the value I place on authentic self-expression.
Moving forward, I'm embracing a gentle approach to my creative process. Instead of forcing inspiration, I'm allowing ideas to simmer and take shape organically. I'm learning to trust that the right words will come when the time is right.
To anyone feeling stuck or hesitant to share their voice: remember that every great journey begins with a single step. Your ideas, no matter how raw or unformed they may seem, have value. Embrace the process, be kind to yourself, and know that the act of creating is just as important as the final product.
As this week draws to a close, I'm filled with renewed determination. I'm excited to explore the multitude of ideas swirling in my mind, to find innovative ways to express them, and to courageously share my thoughts with the world. After all, our unique perspectives and experiences are what make our creative contributions truly special.
Here's to turning challenges into opportunities for growth, and to finding inspiration in unexpected places. The journey of self-expression continues, one word at a time.
